We can actually do a lot to cut back on wasting energy. for example from Canadian Living they stated that there is 10 simple ways to cute back on energy consumption. 10 ways: 1. cut your flights, nothing you do causes so much climate change in such short of time 2. Think hard before you pick up your keys, on average 40% of your journeys made by cars could be made by walking, by bicycle and public transportation 3. Organize a "walking bus" to take the children to school 4. Ask your boss to devise a "workplace travel plan" which rewards people for leaving their cars at home 5. Switch over to a supplier of renewable electricity like wind turbines 6. Ask a builder to give you an estimate for bringing your home to R2000 standards 7. Ditch your air conditioner 8. Turn down your thermostat, 18 degrees is as warm as your house needs to be you just have to get use to it 9. Every light bulb in your house should be compact florescent or LED 10. Do not buy a plasma TV, they use five time as much energy as other models
If you do those 10 steps you would be helping the environment in a big way. Also, you could flip off your light switches, unplug your appliances, put your computer to sleep and you will decrease your home energy consumption. Americans use more than 26% of the worlds energy supply. You can even get creative by saying energy! You can spend one night per week using candles. Also plant trees, but when you plant them make sure you plant them on the south side of your home because it can protect summer heat but, keeps the sun shinning on your home when it is winter time for warmth.
