The reason why it is important because if we don't try to change our ways the energy is going to go decrease and when we need the energy, it will be too late so that's why we need to start now managing how much energy we need to use. Energy is power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines. The average annual electricity consumption for a U.S. residential utility customer was 10,837 kWh, an average of 903 kilowatthours (kWh) per month. Louisiana had the highest annual consumption at 15,046 kWh and Maine the lowest at 6,367 kWh. We use coal, crude oil, diesel, gasoline, and natural gas and if those resources run out we have have no way of getting them back because they are nonrenewable resources. We need gas and oil to power our cars and if those run out we wont be able to use cars and other transportation. In most homes, standby power accounts for about 7% of energy consumption.
